Healing Touch for Nurses Week

By Mary Pat Hank RN, BSN, HTCP/I

It’s been 40 years since I graduated from Nursing School and I know how hard nurses work. So it was truly a pleasure to give Healing Touch sessions to nurses at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, the American Family Children’s Hospital and the American Center Hospital in Madison during Nurses Week this year.

It was so gratifying to see the nurses relax as we gave them 10-minute Healing Touch sessions. There was one nurse who told us what a bad day she was having.  It started when she couldn’t find her car keys and was afraid she was going to be late to work. She searched all over the house for them and couldn’t find them so she had to call her fiancé to help find them. She made it to work at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit but had a baby who just wouldn’t stop crying. My colleague and I worked on her energy field and energy centers as we listened to her tell her story.

We told this nurse that the baby may be picking up on her energy and that since her energy was going to be calmer after her Healing Touch session that perhaps the baby would be calmer too. But we also instructed her on a very simple Healing Touch technique called Hands in Motion that she could do on the baby’s energy field. We told her that babies energy fields clear quickly and that the baby would either go to sleep or would stop crying when it had had enough clearing.

Sure enough that nurse came back within five minutes of leaving us with a big grin on her face. She said, “I can’t believe it. I did what you said and the baby stopped crying. Not only did the baby stop crying but I saw on the cardiac monitor that her heart rate dropped down into a normal range.”

I still smile when I think of that nurse and the change that Healing Touch made in her mood and her energy. Now I want to teach more people these simple Healing Touch techniques.  You don’t have to be a nurse to learn them.

If interested in learning more about Healing Touch, I will be teaching Introduction to Healing Touch classes in Madison on July 25 and August 14. On September 14-15 I will be teaching a Level 1 Healing Touch class at UW Health Research Park Clinic. You can go to the Healing Touch Madison website to find out more details and to register for the classes. I would love to see you there. http://www.healingtouchmadison.com
